Jenny Lind Singers shine spotlight on local female composers as part of the Elgar Festival
The acclaimed Jenny Lind Singers, a Malvern choir directed by Lynne Lindner, return to the Elgar Festival with a vibrant concert celebrating the music of women composers past and present on Sunday 24 May at 3pm at All Saints Church, Deansway, Worcester WR1 2JJ.
Named after the celebrated Swedish soprano Jenny Lind, a close friend of Edward Elgar who spent the latter part of her life in Malvern, the choir continues her legacy of supporting music, education and the arts within the local community.
Under the direction of conductor Lynne Lindner, the virtuosic female voice choir will present an inspiring programme showcasing the rich and varied contributions of women composers across generations. Featuring music both historic and contemporary, the concert highlights the creativity, artistry and enduring influence of female composers whose voices deserve to be heard and celebrated.
Known for their expressive performances and exceptional musicianship, the Jenny Lind Singers have become a much-loved feature of the festival programme. This special concert promises an uplifting and memorable afternoon of choral music performed by some of the region's finest female singers, with harp and piano accompaniment.
Audiences can expect a programme full of beauty, passion and discovery, honouring both the pioneering women of the past and the talented composers shaping music today.
The programme will include Nimrod Re-imagined by Liz Dilnot Johnson, currently composer-in-residence with Ex Cathedra and at The Fold, whose works are regularly played on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM; Fire by Amy Bebbington, one of the brightest new composers of her generation; and Swallows by Kate Hill, an award-winning composer living and working in the Malvern Hills.
